Chapter Next is a 12-16 week paid returnship hosted by RMS. Candidates who have taken a professional career hiatus for at least 1+ years will be eligible to apply to this program.
During this returnship participants will become part of a community of similarly experienced professionals with challenging work scopes that contribute to the great innovation produced by Lockheed Martin! Selected candidates will be exposed to comprehensive training, professional development opportunities, networking opportunities, and individual based mentoring
Our goal is to provide the fundamental tools needed to be successful in your career field, and to potentially prepare you for an opportunity to join Lockheed Martin full-time. Fields of focus will be diverse across the program and include functional and technical opportunities.
This returnship position is Specialty Engineering - Technical Cost Analyst and is a fully virtual role.
Technical Cost Management - applies its unique and powerful combination of analytical and technical skills to increase RMS revenue and profit growth. Technical Cost integrates and synthesizes data from diverse sources to drive extraordinary business results. We exist to change the cost / value curve at RMS. Here are some expectations you should have about this position.
1. Manage yourself and your relationships with your colleagues while working on multiple simultaneous projects with large numbers of participants; [Effectively manage oneself, one’s time, relationships, and projects, 10%]
2. Use multiple digital systems to gather, manipulate and record data; [use databases, business intelligence, accounting and ERP / MRP software, 15%]
3. When you cannot find the data that you need on a computer, track down the people who can answer your questions, and convince them to help you; [apply investigatory abilities and practices, build social networks, 15%]
4. Build and document models that accurately forecast many different types of costs for RMS’s products, based on the data that you collect; [create detailed, accurate, and supported financial models, 25%]
5. Write documentation that explains your models, consistently document process, and create audience-appropriate presentations; [communicate clearly and concisely, 15%]
6. Make your (and your team members’) cost models accessible to others by building and testing prototypes (in Excel or another tool) of web interfaces; [Digitally transform your and the team’s work, 15%]
7. Other duties as needed or required; [make life easier and better for your coworkers, 10%].
Projects: Technical Evaluations, Should Costs, Cost Modelling
Basic Qualifications:
1. Prior experience working in any combination of the following disciplines: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Procurement, Production Operations, Manufacturing, Data Analytics, Data Science, or other similar disciplines.
2. Demonstrated experience learning how to use complex cost modeling software to create detailed cost models like SEER (bottoms-up) or TruePlanning (Parametric top down)
3. Familiarity with COTs CAD software like Creo, Catia V5, 3DX (Catia V6) and/or experience reading engineering drawings or blueprints
4. Experience using full suite of MS Office tools (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
5. Demonstrated experience making data-driven decisions and performing data analysis using tools like Excel, MATLAB, or Tableau to recommend or implement solutions
Desired Skills:
1. Advanced engineering / systems thinking – you’ve got numeric skills, the ability to visualize or otherwise understand complex systems. You can analyze 2nd or 3rd order effects. You might have completed coursework or have a degree in engineering, applied physics or some other similar discipline.
2. Statistical capability – you understand descriptive statistics very well and have had prior projects that had significant statistical components. You may have completed coursework in statistics, either theoretical or applied.
3. Familiarity with accounting – You understand the purpose and the problems associated with overhead allocation. You might have completed coursework or have a degree in accounting or business administration.
4. Information management - you have formal experience in the science of arranging, structuring, and displaying information. You might have experience in user interface design, or you might have an advanced degree in library science, information science or a similar discipline.
5. Qualitative data - you have experience or interest in a discipline such as history, anthropology, or sociology that requires the assimilation and integration of large amounts of qualitative information, marshaled to support or contradict a hypothesis.

Ability to Work Remotely: Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $55,810 - $101,100. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Maryland, Washington or Washington DC is $48,500 - $93,010. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.
