The Manufacturing Engineer position reports directly to the functional area manager in Orlando, FL within the OCC that focuses on the thin film coating of optics. We work with small-scale challenges that will make a significant impact to the customer. We design and develop thin film coatings for various optical systems. It is our responsibility to evaluate and measure the performance of the coatings. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Support production of thin film fabrication processes.

Perform post-coat measurements on thin film coatings to determine compliance or troubleshoot coating runs.

Provide technical guidance and support to optical operators to facilitate performance.

Apply lean manufacturing techniques to reduce cost and increase yields.

Investigate root cause of failures/defects and implement corrective action to support continuous improvement. Provide instructions for reworking products to get back into the production line.

Lead non-recurring efforts (NRE) to establish production manufacturing/test plans, define processes, and lead the teams activities for managing all tooling, manufacturing aids, and capital requirements and transition the NRE into production environment.

Participate in Independent Research and Development efforts that drive innovation and solves challenging problems.

Develop and sustain of manufacturing processes per customers' alignment and resolution requirements.

Drive adoption of new technologies and processes (data analytics, automation, robotics, computer aided manufacturing software, etc.) to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and drive quality improvement.

Research, procure, and implement new capital equipment to be used in the support of measuring/testing and production of thin film coatings.

Design and procure thin film coating fixtures and metrology fixtures to support the production of thin film coatings on various optics.

This position is a second shift role.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Data Science or related discipline from an accredited college

Must have skills, experience and/or course work in one OR more of the following categories of manufacturing engineering:
- Thin film
- Coatings
- Data analytics
- Automation
- Materials characterization

Microsoft Office software experience.

Candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and have the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance.
Desired Skills:
Breadth in skills, experience and/or course work across multiple disciplines of manufacturing engineering is strongly desired. Examples include but not limited to: writing/reviewing work instructions (or standard operating procedure manuals), data analytics, automation, machine learning/artificial intelligence in the factory, maintaining the product lifecycle, and mechanical design.

Candidates with thin film coating specialization will have skills and/or experience that includes the design, manufacturing, and metrology of optical thin film coatings. Thin film coatings at Lockheed Martin are typically for UV/visible through IR applications, include broad band anti-reflection (BBAR), high reflector, dichroic, and notch filters.

Previous experience in vacuum systems, physical vapor deposition, sputtering systems, and advanced plasma sources is a plus.

The candidate should have experience or knowledge of a variety of analytical and metrology techniques for thin film measurement, including in-process metrology, spectrophotometry, ellipsometry, interferometry, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray diffraction.

Previous experience developing novel and successful solutions to complex technical issues.

Previous experience in using data analytics, statistical process control (SPC), and assessing large data sets to solve problems.

Demonstrated small team leadership skills.

Having strong time management skills (ability to adjust priorities), ability to work independently, and able to communicate effectively are critical skills to support on the floor production.

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
