One of Lockheed Martin Commercial Civil Space’s most successful programs is Orion, a partially resusable crewed spacecraft used in NASA’s Artemis program, designed for Moon to Mars missions. NASA and its partners are developing the foundational systems needed for long-term exploration at the Moon for the benefit of all with NASA’s Artemis campaign. The Orion Program is seeking software developers to support the Artemis IV mission, due to several contractual updates with NASA that will update Orion’s flight software capabilities. Following the Artemis III mission that will land the first people near the Moon’s South Pole, astronauts on Artemis IV will live and work in humanity’s first lunar space station, Gateway, which will enable new opportunities for science and preparation for human missions to Mars. The mission will bring together an intricate choreography of multiple launches and spacecraft dockings in lunar orbit, and will feature the debut of NASA’s larger, more powerful version of its SLS (Space Launch System) rocket and new mobile launcher.

In this role you will:
- Work full software lifecycle impacts for updating Orion flight software to properly interface with SLS Block 1B upgrade, Co-Manifested Payloads (CPLs), and Gateway; including software systems engineering support, requirements, software design, implementation (code & unit test), CI/CD support, integration and verification testing, and validation
- Contribute on a highly motivated, collaborative, and dedicated flight software (FSW) team who specifically support the Artemis IV mission
- Incorporate lessons learned from prior Orion missions to adopt new efficiencies that can be leveraged for Artemis IV FSW development & processes
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace, or related equivalent engineering degree

Significant previous professional software development experience

Experience with python scripting and C++ development

Experience with IDEs/code editors like VS Code

Experience with CI/CD tools like Gitlab and Perforce/Swarm

Experience with automated software tests and continuous integration systems

Experience with unit testing and simulated test environments for flight software verification testing

Experience with remote virtual machine or containerized build environments

Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture (inclusive of Atlassian tools like Jira and Confluence)

Ability to work in a dynamic team environment, and bolster team culture based on your active team participation

Effective and pro-active interpersonal communication skills with peers and with program leadership

Ability to embrace a growth mindset
Desired Skills:
Track record of taking software from concept to delivery product

Familiarity with embedded avionics networking (OSI model, transport/data link layers, Ethernet, IP, UDP/TCP/STCP, CCSDS)

Previous Orion and/or Orion software development experience

Previous Flight Software or Simulation Software Experience

Previous experience with real time operating systems

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate: The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Washington or Washington DC is $105,000 - $201,100. For states not referenced above, the salary range for this position will reflect the candidate’s final work location. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer. Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays. (Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year. This position is incentive plan eligible.
