The Lockheed Martin Space (LM Space) program, Whetstone, is seeking a skilled and experienced Software Engineer to develop a Mission Planning capability for the following generation of the United States Space Force's Protected Communications ground system.

In this role, you will be developing a software prototype using high end software coding practices and tools while leading a small team of software engineers. As the software engineering lead, you will have both hands-on and technical oversight for the prototype to include the Architecture, Design, Development and Integration of the Mission Planning Prototype. You will also interface with a small group of sub-contractors as well as the customer. You will have the opportunity to lead the customer demo as well.

The experienced Software Engineering Lead will work this leading edge pursuit, be challenged and continue to grow their skills and career. Experience in software architecture, micro-service-based architecture & design, UX/UI – web-based HMI, Cesium experience is desired.

Candidates with an active DOD Secret clearance prior to start date is desired. Candidates *could* start without a clearance, but must have obtained an active DOD Top Secret clearance by Jan 2025.

This role is located in King of Prussia, PA. However, we can also accommodate the following work locations:
• Rockville, MD
• Colorado Springs, CO
Basic Qualifications:
• Experienced Software Engineer with a skill set equivalent to the position's level
• Demonstrated experience in leading a small team
• Proficiency in at least one of the following areas: 1) Software Architecture or Micro-Service-based Architecture & Design and/or 2) User Experience / User Interface (UX/UI) web-based human-machine interface (HMI)
• No current active security clearance required to start, although, it's preferred at the Secret or Top Secret level
Desired Skills:
• Experience in leading a small team of software engineers
• Demonstrated experience in building a software prototype
• Proven ability to demonstrate the prototype to customers
• Experience in working with subcontractors
• Ability to work independently
• Expertise in coding standards and quality code - a requirement of the proposal
• Experience with Cesium
Security Clearance Statement: This position requires a government security clearance, you must be a US Citizen for consideration.

Ability to Work Remotely: Part-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work part of their work schedule remotely and part of their work schedule at a designated Lockheed Martin facility. The specific weekly schedule will be discussed during the hiring process.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Washington or Washington DC is $105,000 - $201,100 . Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
