The Lockheed Martin Artificial Intelligence Center (LAIC) team is looking for a high-energy, experienced leader with technical expertise in artificial intelligence and machine learning to lead and expand the AI Consulting team within the AI Foundations directorate. This role involves working alongside a diverse team of data engineers, AI/ML developers, full stack developers, MLOps teams, and product managers.

As the successful candidate, you will:

• Lead the AI Consulting team during a significant growth phase, providing support for all Lockheed Martin business areas, digital transformation (1LMX), and external consulting engagements.
• Set the strategy and vision for the AI Consulting team, overseeing day-to-day leadership, designing complex solutions, and addressing intricate AI/ML challenges for Lockheed Martin business areas and external customers.
• Develop and expand an innovative and agile team to quickly iterate and mature solutions from prototypes to deployment, catering to both Lockheed Martin and external clients.
• Provide consultation and mentoring to the corporation on a range of topics, including MLOps best practices, team building, and addressing technical challenges at an enterprise scale.
• Collaborate with AI Foundations, AI Factory (MLOps) team, LAIC, and IT to ensure a cohesive, organization-wide approach to Lockheed's foundational AI ecosystem, enhancing 21st-century capabilities for customers and internal business operations.
• Implement best technical practices from the fields of machine learning and software engineering.
• Identify tooling gaps within the team and work towards filling those gaps.
• Hire, mentor, and develop team members.
• Share best practices of the team with other Lockheed Martin data science teams by creating and presenting knowledge materials and engaging with other data science leaders on those materials.

This position is virtual/full time telecommuting with travel as required.
Candidates must be US citizens.
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
• 15+ years of experience in Computer Science, AI, or a related engineering discipline.
• A combination of technical and strategic leadership, people management, and vision-setting experience.
• Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into value creation through data and AI.
• Proven ability to foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that promotes continuous learning, innovation, and attracts top-tier talent.
• Excellent oral, written, communication, and organizational skills, with experience liaising with executive leadership, customers, and external agencies and partners.
• A proven ability to work cross-functionally and lead data analytics projects from problem definition, data discovery, data preparation, feature engineering, model selection, validation, deployment, and continuous improvement.
• Extensive experience in deploying machine learning solutions into real-world business environments, with a track record of designing and implementing scalable AI/ML systems that drive tangible business value.
• Experience with one or more programming languages (e.g. Python, R, Java, etc.).
• Expertise building advancedLarge Language models (LLMs) / Generative AI workflows such as retrieval augmented generation, model chaining, dynamic prompting, PEFT/SFT, etc. using Langchain, transformers, vLLM, etc.
• Experience training and evaluating Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNs/LSTMs), and other model architectures.
• The ability to stay updated on new technologies in the rapidly evolving field of AI.
• Experience with agile management practices and mentoring individuals and teams.
Desired Skills:
• Experience leading a world-class AI consulting team, managing a wide variety of technical projects for a diverse set of customers.
• Experience in scaling teams during growth phases is highly desirable.
• Demonstrated expertise in the successful application of AI/ML to various applications, such as computer vision, sensors and signals, time series data, manufacturing, operations, and supply chain.
• Experience with MLOps frameworks and pipelines.
• A proven track record of technical and people leadership experience, including leading diverse and dynamic multi-discipline engineering teams.
• Knowledge of AI technology fundamentals, data, and industry trends.
• Understanding of modern DevSecOps (CI/CD) practices and their applicability to AI deployments.
• Familiarity with major cloud computing services (AWS, Azure, etc.) and on-prem distributed computing services.
• Experience in Aerospace and Defense, engineering, manufacturing systems, and business processes.

Ability to Work Remotely: Full-time Remote Telework: The employee selected for this position will work remotely full time at a location other than a Lockheed Martin designated office/job site. Employees may travel to a Lockheed Martin office for periodic meetings.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 4x10 hour day, 3 days off per week
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in most major metropolitan areas in California and New York is $198,200 - $373,400. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California and New York (excluding most major metropolitan areas), Colorado, Hawaii, Washington or Washington DC is $172,400 - $330,300. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.

(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full-time employees: accrue at least 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO) to be used for incidental absences and other reasons; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of Vacation per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO, Vacation, sick leave, and holiday hours are prorated based on start date during the calendar year.

This position is incentive plan eligible.
